Architectural Design Studio 2

Project 1 : FAMOUS PEOPLE, FAMILIAR FACES DIAGRAMMATIC ABSTRACTION

In group of five , we need to analyse and digramming the concept and style of the masterpiece by Moder Master. For my group , we have chosen Tadao Ando and his work , Koshino House as our study.

Reflection:

Through this project which associate with Culture and History 2 , we have much more better understanding in our selected Modern Master. After this project , I have learnt how to digramming and use those architectural languange . .

I am impressed that the concrete that he present is in a gentle and soft feeling although it remain cold and hard. I like the way that Tadao Ando present his buidling. It is nothing special outside but yet the inner beauty is attractive.

Learning outcome:

1. Ability to identify master architects and their works
2. Understanding basic architectural compositions of solids, planes, lines and frames.
3. Ability to ‘diagram’ and analyse architectural work of selected architect

Project 2A : Introduction to Site Analysis + Picnic Pavilion

Location: Port Dickson

In this project , We travelled to Port Dickson an weekend get away in Malaysia. our site was on slopy side of mountain front of the sea. in a group of 20 to 25 people we conducted an site analysis of the slop. based of the analysis we selected a site within our site for the picnic pavillion.

Reflection:

This project is so much interesting and challenging for me. We experienced the site by our own and analysed it. For this project , it requires us to apply Modern Master's style or philosophy. We apply the all things we learnt before . It is very helpful And it also make us to realise the distance between reality and imagination. We need to consider much more things.

LEARNING OUTCOME:

  • We learnt the importanceof model making and drawings.

  • We learnt ot be client specific and design keeping in mind the site context .

Project 2B : Retreat House/ Beach House

Project 2b extends the understanding of design concept and process. It introduces the notion of architectural space making through the design of a user specific architectural scheme. This project explores the relationship between architectural tectonics, function and space in architecture.

Keeping in mind our 1st and 2nd project we had to design a beach house for our client. we had to connect it to our picnic pavillion.

TASK:

  •  As a group, we completed a site visit to record important information pertaining to our project.  The site analysis  on an A2 (landscape) .

  • Final Design Scheme The final submission for this project includes

  • . A full set of architectural drawing (site plan, floor plans, sections, elevations, axon and perspectives) 2. Diagrammatic explanation of the composition of Space and Form (which explains how the design is responding to the character and context),

  • beautifully hand drawn onto 2 A1 size tracing/cartridge paper and a model.

  • scale - 1:100

  • our this project was clubbed with our construction project 2 hence the design had to have components of both/one of the material metal or wood.

LEARNING OUTCOME:

  • interpret and analyse simple site context

  •  interpret and analyse client’s character and needs in relation to the design of a small building

  •  design a simple building type that meets user requirements and respect site context that balances both internal (architectural spaces/layout/circulation) and external (aesthetics and forms) design values.
