Project 1: Case Study
In this project, students are to read Jahn Gehl's "Life Between Buildings" (chapte 1). Subsequently students are to examine patterns of social activities in a city (In a group of 6 we were assigned Harvard Square, Cambridge as a case study) and identify contact points. We were asked to classify varying degree of contact intensity.

Synopsis
Subsequent to each thematic lecture, students are required to submit a synopsis in the form of reaction paper. Its aim is for the students to read a selected reading in relation to the theme that has been discussed in class for the week and submit a reaction paper of the text. There will be a total of 4 synopses.
A reaction or response paper requires the writer to analyze a text, then develop commentary related to it. It requires thoughtful reading, research and writing. It should identify the key points highlighted in the text and then focus on your personal perspective on issues raised through the text. In addition to your personal perspective, you should identify experiences or insights that have shaped your perspective.
Project 2: Comparative Analysis Essay
The aim was to examine the relationship between patterns of space used, based on our reading ‘Life Between Buildings’ by Jahn Gehl, especially the outdoor spaces outdoor activities and the spatial properties of the physical world. Based on our findings from the case study ‘Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge’ and local site ‘China Town, Kuala Lumpur, we are to examine similarities and dissimilarities based on the pattern of social activities, type of contact point and the varying degree of contact intensity between two cities.
