Project 1 “SPACE OUT - THE MATERIAL CUBE”
The task of this project is to design and build two separate paper and wood cube to define a volume of 12”x12”x12” inch space. We are asked to produce with this one material and a fastening system such as glue, nails, screw and others. The function of the cube is to define the volume of a 12”x12”x12” inch space. I have chosen balsa wood as my material for the wooden cube. As for my paper cube, I have chosen to use mounting board. Through this project, I learnt to recognize how intrinsic forms, limitations and boundaries of a material factor in a design process. I am also able to work effectively with a material in line with design requirements and also able to express a material within its contextual application

Project 2 "MATERIALITY OF SPACE: AN EXPERIENTIAL EXPLORATION"
In groups of 5, we have selected Burger Factory which allows us to experience and explore most of the building materials covered in the module. We are required to produce a mood board and two A2 boards. In this project, we are exposed to various types of building materials that are being used in the construction practice. I also get to understand the choices designers makes in choosing the building materials based on the properties.




The next task is an individual task where we are required to select a space and experience within the space. Then, we have to produce an A2 board consisting design intention and concept, space analysis and also diagrams to support our analysis. I have chosen Burger Factory as my site.

Through this project, I get a better understanding of various types of building materials. I also able to understand the appropriateness of material used in context several factors occupancy, concept, climate. I get to understand the effects of building materials on aesthetics and structural qualities of a space or building when conducting this project. Lastly, I am able to produce a complete documentation and analysis of materials in respect to physical and chemical properties.
