Design Communication

Project 1A ON-SITE SKETCHING

We are required to engage with the site by experiencing it through a spatial sequence of our choice in this project. While moving in sequence, we are required to record our observation and perception of the spaces and the human habitation of these spaces through free-hand sketches where we need to include both exterior and interior spaces.

From this project, I get to understand the notion of space in architecture and also develop skills in visualizing of space through observation and perception of a given site. This project also taught me how to develop skills in sketching as a mode of communication.

Project 1B TONAL VALUES

We were to choose one object for this project. Based on the selected image, we are required to produce four variations of a tonal value sketch. This is to build upon our previous assignment where we develop our skills in creating depth and tone in a sketch and thus enhancing to produce an architectural sketch that is legible.

I am able to understand the notion of space and detailing's in architecture and objects. I have also developed skills in communicating in various tonal and depths.

Project 2A ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTIONS

We were to draw up orthographic drawings of Barcelona Pavilion in this project. Through this project, I am able to demonstrate drafting skills in modern and traditional methods of architectural drawing. I am also able to identify and apply architectural conventions and symbols. The orthographic drawings is demonstrated in ink of different line weights, line types and also written in architectural hand lettering.

Project 2B AXONOMETRIC PROJECTION

In this project, I learned how to execute an axonometric projection by generating partial of an external and a sectional axonometric of the house. We were required to generate a sectional axonometric or isometric drawing showing both interior and exterior of Barcelona Pavilion.

Through this project, I have the ability to express spatial ideas and architectural detail in three-dimension, in the format of an isometric projection. I also understand of what axonometric and isometric projections are, how to generate them and how to apply them to the design process and presentation.

Project 2C PERSPECTIVES

We are required to construct one exterior perspective and one interior perspective. We are required to produce a two-point perspective for the exterior. Firstly, we have to identify an external view which interests us the most. As for the interior perspective, we were to draw a one-point perspective.

I learned to express spatial ideas and architectural detail in three-dimension, in the format of one-point and two-point perspectives. From this project, I get to understand of what perspectives are, how to generate them and how to apply them to the design process and presentation. I find perspectives are interesting and also enable me to produce legible architectural drawings with strong creative intent.
